SAGE Automation is delighted to have been awarded the Operational Technology Maintenance and Project Delivery (OTMPD) contract with Melbourne Water, Victoria’s largest water wholesaler. Melbourne Water provides water and wastewater services to more than five million people in the Greater Melbourne area.

Under an initial 3-year contract, SAGE will be responsible for the delivery of maintenance services, as well as minor and some major capital projects involving operational technology (OT) across Melbourne Water’s infrastructure.

Melbourne Water manages all major water, sewerage, and drainage networks across the Greater Melbourne area, supplying the region’s three retail water authorities – Greater Western Water, Yarra Valley Water and South-Eastern Water – as well as supporting councils and the state government.

A Victorian Government entity, Melbourne Water is responsible for key activities such as the management of water supply catchments, treating and supplying drinking water, and the removal and treatment of most of Melbourne’s sewage.

Scott Giroux, SAGE Group General Manager for Victoria and Tasmania, highlighted the value of SAGE’s industry partnerships and the capability across the SAGE Group of companies as closely aligned with the contract requirements.

“Our team bring extensive local knowledge of the water industry, with some members having worked closely with Melbourne Water previously – and they understand the challenges and opportunities involved with ensuring a high-quality supply is delivered to customers in the Melbourne region.”

“SAGE has the ability to connect our clients with the support needed for ongoing sustainability and security, as well as our proven experience managing complex water assets throughout their lifecycle,” said Mr Giroux.

Melbourne Water’s assets include 14 water treatment plants, 37 service reservoirs, eight sewage pumping stations and two major wastewater treatment plants. They deliver more than 428 billion litres of drinking water to customers.

The contract will see a team of more than 15 team members from the SAGE Victorian office working full-time, with this number likely to scale up for major projects. SAGE’s local Service team will provide 24/7 second-level breakdown support, as well as preventative and corrective OT maintenance.

“We’re excited to bring SAGE’s technical capability, and our experience driving efficiency through innovative solutions within the water industry, to this contract. The team are looking forward to helping Melbourne Water to plan for the future and maintain their high standard of service,” said Andrew Farch, SAGE’s Program Manager, who will oversee the project delivery.

SAGE will commence work with Melbourne Water in February.
