SAGE Group has been named the winner of the Chief Minister’s Award for Excellence in the Defence Industry.
The award was announced at the Australian Industry and Defence Network - Northern Territory Gala Dinner on October 28th in recognition of outstanding contribution by a local business in providing capability to the Defence support industry in the Northern Territory.
SAGE Group’s presence in the Northern Territory spans more than a decade, growing from two locally based engineers in 2009 to a team of 30 people across three Northern Territory offices (Darwin, Katherine and Alice Springs) today.
SAGE supports the local Defence sector by completing more than 10,000 hours of work per year on Defence infrastructure and naval assets in the Northern Territory.
“SAGE is very proud to win the Minister’s Award for Excellence and we are honoured by the recognition of our work in support of Defence infrastructure and naval assets in the Northern Territory. The hard work of our team and the support of local business partners have enabled us to achieve outstanding results on the delivery of major Defence projects”, Andrew Meaney, SAGE's General Manager for Northern Territory said.
Against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, SAGE Darwin have adopted new systems to ensure they can still deliver outstanding service to the Northern Territory Defence sector, including training local Defence personnel through SAGE Group’s training organisation, Skills Lab.
"SAGE are proud to provide ongoing 24/7 maintenance and breakdown support on critical Defence assets across the Northern Territory. Supported by our National Operations Centre, SAGE technicians provide on-call support to keep critical Defence assets such as Fuel Systems, Airport Runway Lighting, Emergency Power and other infrastructure online," Mr Meaney said.
In response to SAGE Group’s continued Defence sector growth in the Northern Territory, SAGE is moving forward with the development of a new purpose-built facility in Berrimah Business Park in 2021. The office will enable enhanced operations for the Darwin-based team and allow for future growth.
SAGE Darwin is excited to launch a Northern Territory work placement program this year as part of their commitment to the sustainable growth of a skilled local workforce. The Darwin team have also engaged a local engineer (Electrical/Electronic) though the SAGE Graduate Engineering Program and are particularly proud to support their first local apprentice in Katherine, in addition to two Darwin-based apprentices, who will work on a number of Defence projects.
