We Can Program: Barry Higham rides for a reason

In the same year that Barry Higham started his career at SAGE, the Cancer Council launched the Ride for a Reason fundraiser. Every year since Barry has jumped on his bike to ride for a great cause spurred on by the support of his SAGE colleagues.

In 2009 Barry joined SAGE as a service technician and has since moved to project management, specialising in the water sector.

In this time, Barry has also been encouraged in his fundraising efforts by the generous donations of SAGE team members from across Australia and India.

Barry’s support of the Cancer Council has developed through the impact of the disease on both his parents and his desire to contribute to research and support for families navigating their treatment journey.

One in two Australians are diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85, a reminder that we all know someone who will be impacted at some stage.

The fundraising efforts to find better ways to detect and treat cancer continue to drive Barry to be involved in events like this.

The 2021 Ride for a reason will look a little different, but Barry is as keen as ever to push himself to a target distance of around 800 kilometres and smash his $1000 fundraising goal. We sat down with Barry to get an insider’s perspective on race day:

Donations in support of Barry’s 2021 ride can be made here.

We wish Barry all the best for next year’s ride and also as he relocates to Sydney to pursue a new role as a program manager.
